National History:

Sigma Phi Epsilon was founded on November 1, 1901 at Richmond College in Richmond, Virginia. There were twelve founding members who stated, “This fraternity will be different, it will be based on the love of God and the principle of peace through brotherhood.” Those twelve men started what has become the largest college fraternity with over 14,000 current undergraduates at 258 chapters and over 250,000 lifetime members.

Sigma Phi Epsilon has always prided itself on building leaders for our world and the community around us and continues to reach its goals through the use of local chapters, alumni support, and leadership programs. Sigma Phi Epsilon has developed four major programs over the years, Ruck Leadership, EDGE, Carlson Leadership Academy, and the Tragos Quest for Greece, that members attend to help fully develop them into leaders.

Local History:

Our local chapter, Mississippi Beta Chapter, was founded in 1938 on the 3rd Floor of Montgomery Hall. We have since moved through a series of fraternity houses over the years, upgrading each time, with our last move being in 1994 into our current house. We now have one of the largest houses in the SEC and were recently awarded with National House of the Year Award at the 2009 Carlson Leadership Academy. We have initiated over 1,350 members over the years, and currently have 66 active members, and we are continuing to grow each year as we recruit the best men here at Mississippi State University.
